Last week we spent 5 days in a Key West beach cottage for my 30th birthday. 30...it's official. We had the most fun. It doesn't take long to get into the Key West culture, laid back, carefree, simple.
I love the atmosphere in Key West and get inspired by the architecture. Daydreaming about designing a home like these.
Everywhere we went I kept noticing all the front porch ceilings were painted turquoise. Seemed kinda odd...that all of them were painted this way. I finally asked someone and the answer was quite practical. The ceilings are painted blue to keep spiders and wasps from making nests in the wood work. Apparently if the ceiling is the color of the sky, they will stay away. I couldn't help but wonder if the local Sherwin Williams in Key West carries a standard sky blue porch paint or if you have to stare at swatches to get just the right shade...
