Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco

We are loving this champagne. It is a sweet, sparkling red and is completely refreshing for summer. We've had a number of friends ask about it and where you can get it. We've found it at several places including Vine and Table in Carmel. Seems its becoming more and more popular. Salute!

The Neighborhood: Chelsea Garden

I had to drop off a few final forms for our leasing agent this afternoon and took the opportunity to walk down a new street in my effort to get to know our neighborhood. To my delight, RIGHT across the street from our place is beautiful Chelsea Garden, a great landscaping center! It was very cute and I feel will be a good place for me to get a flower fix. The owner introduced himself and was super nice. I asked if they would have pumpkins in the fall and trees at Christmas. His response,"Of course!"

I also had my first meet cute. I ran into the grocery for a bottled water and saw a friend of a friend who also lives in the neighborhood. New York is not so big after all!

Heaven on 42nd and 11

It has been a wonderful and exhausting day. We think we've found our new place. I didn't even take a ton of photos because we were so excited. It was late in the afternoon and we had seen so many apartments by that point, our minds were spinning a bit. A lot to take in. This is not only beautiful and brand new but it is in a WONDERFUL location. More to come but a few photos attached. The view is spectacular...really breathtaking.

NYC Morning

Its a beautiful morning in New York. We spent yesterday looking at a handful of apartments and I spent the evening arranging and rearranging furniture over and over in my mind. It's exciting and nerve-racking trying to determine what would fit and what wouldn't...especially for an apartment that you may or may not be living in. I'm trying to look at everything through local eyes...trying to learn streets and blocks and the distance between locations. Yesterday a woman asked if I lived here. I desperately wanted to say, YES! She was looking for a place for American pancakes. Fortunately we were able to direct her to a great breakfast place only a few blocks away. It's a start.

Today we'll spend the entire day looking for our new home.
The City awaits.

Mom's Lemonade

Summer isn't summer without lemonade and my mom's lemonade is the best. I don't just say this because she's my mom...it's the best. Hands down. She gets asked all the time for the recipe which is super easy and wonderfully refreshing. Enjoy some this weekend! Happy Friday everyone!

Mom's Lemonade

For each can of Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade add...
2 cans water
2 cans Canada Dry Ginger Ale
1/2 cup sugar
3 large sprigs of fresh mint
1 - 2 lemons, thinly sliced

Add ice and ENJOY!

Rachel Ashwell: Shabby Chic Interiors

I have been a fan of Rachel Ashwell for several years now, 13 to be exact...wow I am getting really old. Anyway, I was super excited for her newest book, Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Interiors. Although my style doesn't include Rachel's signature pale pink or flowery fabrics, I love her attention to detail and the way she incorporates special vintage finds. I owe my love of treasure hunting to her. In my 13 years of pilfering through flea markets and antique stores I've learned if you know what you love, you know what to look for. It makes the hunt that much more exciting especially when you find just the perfect thing. Below are photos from Rachel's newest book, very beautiful.

The Tourist Lane

Well that is hilarious. See the story.

Sleeping Fabulously

So about a month ago I had an eye issue, self inflicted contact over-wearing. When will I ever learn? Anyway, my eyes were super light sensitive so I invested in a cheap but incredibly necessary sleep mask until my eyes were better. To my surprise, I have come to fall in absolute love with the sleep mask! It blocks the street lights from the double doors in our bedroom not to mention it makes me feel all retro glam like Holly Golightly. However, now that I've come to terms with my love affair with the sleep mask, I think its time to invest in something that actually looks the part. My current CVS brand is a little less Carrie Bradshaw and a little more Batman. Clearly not a long term solution.

Mimi Al A Mode sells one of the masks worn by Carrie Bradshaw. I like the cute little ruffle. Mary Green's sleep masks have been worn on Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives...not to mention, she carries the Holly Golightly mask!

Seems I have some decisions to make. If you've never tried a sleep mask, it just might be your new favorite thing. If it's good enough for Audrey...

Day in the Life: Jenna Lyons

A day in the life of J. Crew creative director Jenna Lyons. Plus a look at her unbelievable closet.

I miss Sex and the City

So postmortem on SATC2. Spoiler alert if you haven't seen it, but if you're a fan of the show you've either 1. seen it already or 2. you are trapped under something heavy and need emergency assistance.

In the midst of watching the movie I'm thinking this is fun, I missed these 4 friends, yay! But now, weeks later and with more time to reflect, I've come to the following conclusion...what the heck WAS that?

So SATC1, we can agree, had its share of eye candy. Fashion, drama, funny lines from Carrie, yes, yes and yes, all well and good. However, it also had its share of turn your stomach sugar-coated cheese ball one-liners. "Don't forget your love, I'll see you in Saint Louie, you gave me Louise Vuitton"...oh it gags me to even type it out. All that said, I was slightly disappointed but realize the movie powers that be must make these decisions to appeal to the masses. I mean, maybe its too much to ask that the movie be as good as the show. Its just not a direct comparison. Although I discriminate, if SATC1 is on HBO I can't help but watch it. I'm like a moth to a flame. Can't refuse it, can't turn it off. For whatever reason I have this same problem when The Devil Wears Prada is on TV which is an absolutely dreadful movie, so maybe its a personal problem.

Back to SATC2. I had high hopes. I thought, perhaps they got the memo. Perhaps they heard the feedback that 1 was a bit too silly and they should stick with what worked in the show. Clearly, this was not the memo that was received. Okay for starters..its called Sex and the CITY....as in New York CITY. I remember back in the day, back when the show was on HBO, SJP would be interviewed saying "Oh Yes, New York City is the 5th cast member on the show. The city is such an important piece, the show wouldn't be the same without it." Got that right sister. Why the heck are you parading around Abu Dhabi? Seriously. Who goes to Abu Dhabi? Where did the 5th cast member go? And the Charlie's Angels scene where they are running around in burkas. Oh you must be kidding me. Not to mention...why on earth would you POSSIBLY run into Aiden? I mean I love Aiden. I always loved Aiden, but this is a stretch. And then your husband buys you an amazing diamond as a reward for cheating on him? Good thing I still have some anti-nausea meds leftover from vacation.

Alas. I'm a fan of the show. I've been a fan right from the start. Good money says I'll be sporting stilettos lined up with a sweaty wad of cash to buy my ticket to SATC3. I'll drink my Carrie Cosmo and be giddy with anticipation. In the meantime, I'm breaking out my seasons of DVDs, reminiscing of the good ole days. Before the silver screen, before TBS, before Liza's frightening performance...when it was just 4 girls and the City.

Friday Morning

I thought our breakfast today was cute enough for a photo. When you work from home, a quaint breakfast is achievable from time to time. Bon Weekend!

Matt & Jordyn's Wedding

Some early photos from the wedding! So so so beautiful.

Love this beautiful cake stand.

Embroidered napkins at the reception.

Jordyn's beautiful dress hanging in the window.

All the women were given vintage handkerchiefs when they arrived at the wedding.

Jordyn's purse was lined with butterflies, her favorite, a sweet embroidered quote and their wedding date.

Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunnyside of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.
